Paint.NET depends on Microsoft's.NET Framework 4.7.2, which is automatically installed if it isn't already on the system. Paint.NET will automatically run in 64-bit mode if possible. You must have a 64-bit capable CPU and an x64 edition of Windows. I would be extremely grateful to anyone pointing me in the direction of the Mac OS X analogue for the free Windows image-editing software Paint.NET. Basically the way I use it is I take lots of screenshots for work, then put arrows in there, some ovals and text - it's all for documentation purposes. Paint Brush is also very fast to open and get work done with and will be perfect for doing some small editing or painting stuff in a jiffy. Link: Download Paintbrush from here. Seashore is a free, open-source paint application for Mac OS built entirely in Cocoa.
I come from a windows background and am very familiar with the simple 'paint' application; I am searching for an equivalent app for my Mac. I have downloaded free 'paintbrush for Mac' from the internet but find that it does not have the tools which MS Paint has, and more importantly, I can work only with 2 colors.white an black.

As Dave Winer recently pointed out on Scripting News (via The Loop), Apple’s Preview app has somewhat hidden paint function that most users have no idea is there.
Winer’s instructions for accessing the paint functions in Apple’s Preview app include a few extra steps, wo we’ll amend them here.
Microsoft Paint For Mac
All you have to do is open any image file on your computer in Preview (if Preview isn’t your default app for image files, simply right-click on a file, hover over “Open With,” and then select “Preview.app”).
Then in the top menu in Preview, you’ll see a toolbox icon. Just click it and you’re ready to go.
The paint functions in Preview aren’t exactly on par with something like Photoshop, but there are plenty of simple tools for quick edits and markups. There is even a nifty signature function that lets you digitally sign documents using your laptop’s trackpad or a Magic Trackpad.
