The MAC owns and operates a seven-airport system, including MSP, in the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area. The other six airports are general aviation intermediate and minor airports known as 'reliever airports' because they help relieve congestion at MSP.
These reliever airports, listed below and mapped for reference, provide services for aircraft and aircraft operators that include supplies, education, aircraft storage, fuel, mechanical and airframe work and more to address a variety of aviation needs, such as recreational flying, private business travel, military operations, emergency medical transportation and flight training.
- OS X reports Airport Extreme with Wake on Wireless and AirDrop supported. Newer Broadcom WiFi cards no longer require rebranding to work in OS X. Yosemite/Handoff supported on Broadcom WiFi/BT4LE. Yosemite/AirPortBrcm4360.kext Whitelist added for abgn (abgn+ac excluded as of this writing).
- Runs VxWorks Operating System by WindRiver or a customized version of NetBSD. The AirPort Disk feature allows users to plug a USB hard drive into the AirPort Extreme for use as a network-attached storage (NAS) device for Mac OS X and Microsoft Windows clients. Users may also connect a USB hub and printer.
More than half of all registered aircraft in Minnesota are based at the MAC's reliever airports. By providing an alternative to MSP for private and corporate flights, the reliever airports increase the safety and efficiency of the entire airport system. Together, the reliever airports accommodate more than 400,000 aircraft operations per year. More than 1,600 aircraft are based at the airports, from antique and experimental aircraft, to modern propeller models, to the latest in corporate jet technology.

The reliever airports system supports more than 2,200 full-time jobs in the area and generates more than $250 million in annual economic activity.
The MAC Community Relations Office asseses and monitors aircraft noise impacts at the reliever airports, and works with stakeholders to develop solutions for reducing impacts on the surrounding communities.
